Our next film in the series, Beanpole (dir. Kantemir Balagov, 2019), explores the aftermath of war by centering women’s lives in postwar Leningrad. It is a richly filmed and devastating portrait of the destruction brought by war. The film won best director and best film in the Un Certain Regard section of the Cannes Film Festival in 2019.
